Pennsylvania - Macungie
Austin
Age: 3 yr.
Sex: male
neutered

  !

From a partner TN shelter. Black and tan with a touch of white. 22 lbs a bit thick. Can lose a couple pounds, as could most of us!

A happy goofy boy. Gets along well with other dogs but can overwhelm some shyer dogs with his outgoing personality. .

He goes out doggy door with Pam's in TN. He can be mischievous and lead the pack in kitchen chaos if not watched. Ok on leash. Pam doesn't crate.

His PA foster said (after 4 days with him) - Austin is turning into an awesome foster. He calmed down a lot since the first day - he still loves to play fetch and wrestle with Zelda, but after a session he is happy laying on the couch or in the window. Right now he is laying on the rug behind my desk while I do some work. He has had no pee accidents, and now that I think I finally broke his "poop code" he hasn't had any poop accidents in the house. Now that we are more confident about his potty training, we let him loose in the house when we are here as long as he has gone to the bathroom recently.

He has taken very well to the crate - he doesn't love going in, but all it takes is a gentle push to get him going. Once he is in the crate, he will stay there quietly for an hour or so, and has been spending every night in the crate in a bedroom with one of us with very little crying.

Overall he is a pretty quiet dog. He only barks when he wants out of the crate. He has an amazing nose and is constantly sniffing things out in the yard. He loves soft toys and tennis balls. We have not caught him trying to chew on many things in the house, and when we do, we correct him and he leaves it alone. Mostly he only "mouths" the soft toys and blankets, but does not do any damage to them.

Austin is also doing a great job on the leash - he does love to wander, and can get under my feet if I'm not careful, but overall is doing well.

Lisa updated us the end of June - Austin is continuing to settle in. We had a major backslide with potty training, but I think we are back on track. He does not like to go potty in the yard (unless Zelda has just peed, then he will pee where she did). Taking him down to the street and walking him along the curb seems to help. He does not show any indication that he needs to go to the bathroom that I have figured out yet, so he is on a strict potty schedule. If it's been awhile since he has peed, and he is wandering around the house, I will put him in the crate. Fortunately, he has been doing well in the crate, and doesn't mind it as long as we are in the room with him.

He is such a silly and playful pup - he will take a toy and toss it up in the air for himself. He can be clumsy, but that adds to his adorableness. He loves shoes and socks, and will steal them - but so far he has not chewed on anything enough to cause any damage. He is very attached to people - he usually prefers to lay on the floor next to where we are sitting.

OK, he just tends to be thick all around (legs, tail, etc.) and has a bit of a barrel chest. He has an obvious waist, and is a slow eater (even though he is always excited for meal time).

He does get distracted VERY easily. If he latches on to a scent, there is nothing you can do to get his attention. I think this might be part of his issue with peeing in the yard - he would much rather sniff than do his business. He also tends to get distracted while he is eating - he will stop several times, but if I shake his food bowl, he will come back to his food.

He will make a great pet - but probably best with someone who is willing to take some time to continue training.

Ryleigh
Age: 1 - 2 yrs.
Sex: female
spayed

  !

ADOPETD BY THE FINAN FAMILY - 6/14/25

Tri-colored ticked female beagle, came in with Ryleigh. Owner surrender because he had too many dogs.

Our TN director wrote this: Ryleigh is the chiller of the two. Both are 100% kennel clean. Know a leash. Friendly.

Ryleigh is good with other dogs. She has lost weight with a correct food amount. Feeding at 25 lbs. Was 29 at spay. At first when fatter she was a bit hesitant at being picked up. Now she is good but I also tweaked my back lol. Not her, gardening.

Red ticked tri-colored female came in with Ryleigh. Owner surrender because he had too many dogs

Our TN director wrote this: Eden gets a bit standoff and may bark at new people for a bit. With Kennel cough in the rescue, she was only allowed out with certain other dogs. A bit confused by them. Eden is ~22 lbs.

Sweet but more go go go. Needs training. Knows a leash. Loved running around yard. Ignores the crotchety boys. Mostly bossy with younger smaller.

Jade
Age: 9-10 months
Sex: female
spayed

  !

One of a litter of 4 that were in need of rescue. Adopted but returned to the rescue on our request after the adopter’s senior dog developed health issues and Jade wasn’t receiving the continued care and training expected due to many factors. She isn’t into other dogs around food or high value treats/toys and will bully them if they are submissive, but has no issues with people. We've worked with her and unless a dog is overly submissive, she has shown to issues here in foster with us. We're working on Sit (down pat) and Wait (placing her food down and not letting her eat until we tell her OK) and she almost has that too!

She sometimes becomes combative with other females who dare to stand up to her, so think she'd be best as an only dog.

New Jersey - Mantua
Sadie Mae
Age: 3 yrs
Sex: female
spayed

  !

ADOPTED BY THE BONI FAMILY - 6/16

Sadie Mae's story is an example of the transformative power of love and family care. As an owner surrender, it's clear that she was cherished and her mon's difficult decision to prioritize her safety is a poignant reminder of the complexities of life.

Her relatively quick adjustment while in TN was remarkable and started getting back her groove as a confident, loving companion. She flourished and her gentle spirit, good manners on walks and affectionate personality made her an absolute treasure.

She was immediately adopted in NJ, but her senior owner found it difficult to walk her and no access to a fenced yard, so was returned to the rescue. Our new foster, Steve, accepted her on Saturday and been reporting in daily.

Another good night and day for Sadie. Slept almost 10 hours with a short episode of reverse sneezing which ended by me patting her back. Crate is bone dry. Up to pee, fed her, took her out again - and again, another healthy BM.

She can experience high energy levels. She will appear to be sleeping but gets up to follow me. Believe that's going to pass when she settles in. Would want an adopter to be aware of it because she's very quiet and you would want to prevent her from being stepped on.

She loves to play with her squeaky toys, either by herself or when playing fetch. Very energetic when playing. When done playing she will rest on the couch, look out the window, or try to nap.

Very much into treats and food. She finishes a meal in the time it takes me to leave the kitchen and sit down. Would suggest food and treats be kept out of her reach.

She shows no interest in chewing something she shouldn't. I tried to dog proof the apartment but there still are wires exposed and she has no interest in them.

She can be described as "energetic" but has calmed down as she gets used to her new environment. She seems to have some "couch potato" in her. She has been lying on the couch during the 45 minutes I've been writing this.

Her only issue is the barking, but that too is getting better. Walked her several times yesterday when neighbors were outside and she approached them without barking and proceeded to charm them. She still will bark indoors when someone approaches the screen door. Trying to break her of this but it's a reflex that appears to have developed over time and will take time to break. Seems protective.

Barks at neighbors dog until they've met.

She is developing into a champ on the leash. A simple tug on the leash in the direction you want her to go is all that's needed to keep her on track. She gets a bit excited on a part of the property that exotics like fox and deer frequent so we don't go there. (I'd say Sadie is training him well in that department.)

To summarize, Sadie is a very sweet dog who will make someone a wonderful pet. She will reward her owners with multiple kisses and lap time.

New Jersey - Mantua
Miss Molly
Age: 2-1/2 - 3 yrs.
Sex: female
spayed

  !

ADOPTED BY THE DOWLING FAMILY - 6/28/25

Molly came into rescue pregnant and we thought at first her pups were purebred, but at 5 weeks they turned "fluffy" so were obviously mixes. The pups have been transferred to Recycled Best Friends.

Mom came in with bad flea bite dermatitis, but good nutrition and weekly baths has started hair growth back on her bald spots.

Molly is probably from hunting background, because she will pick up a scent and follow it in the yard energetically, but in the house she's a calm couch potato. Might need some work on leash pulling if you live in an area with a lot of wildlife, but using a "watch me" command and treats can usually accomplish that in short order. This is a girl, though, that could never be offleash in an unfenced yard, and would need at least a 4' high fence to stay contained if she picked up a scent.

Her NJ foster has had her 5 days and says this about her: Molly is such a gentle and quiet girl. She charms everyone she meets and loves
attention. Her coat is full and is good on the leash. When she gets a scent (still a full Beagle) a full stop or gentle tug gets her back on the right track.

One pee accident I blame on myself and my aversion to 101 degree temps. Other than that she is wonderfully house trained and will go to the door when she wants out.

Sleeps all night. Not a fan of the crate but nests on the couch.
Hasn't met any other dogs outside but shows a calm interest in them.
Molly would make a great addition to any home.

Walinda
Age: 2 yrs.
Sex: female
spayed

  !

Walinda was being given away at a WalMart in TN. One of our rescue friends grabbed her and brought her to SOS. She's a pretty little blue-ticked girl, about 18#. She has been known to climb a 4" chainlink fence.

Walinda is a PLEASURE!! She is completely housetrained with no accidents since she has been with me. She sleeps great in a crate, even if the door isn't closed. She likes to give kisses and get pets and is happy to hang out on the couch for quiet time. She will play fetch with a ball and walks well on a leash. She spent 2 days out on the boat and even took a swim in the bay. She held her bladder the entire day, even when taken to the beach to relieve herself. She is not a food hound and needs to be coaxed to eat at times. Responds very well to cheese, not a veggie fan. She has gotten along great with all the dogs she's met.

Walinda will be a great housepet for any family.

Red
Age: 1-1/2 yrs.
Sex: male
neutered

  !

Meet this handsome fellow, a charming beagle mix with a lovely red-brown coat! While he can be a little skittish at first, he tends to warm up to women more quickly. Once he decides you're his person, he transforms into a cuddle bug! He's wonderfully quiet in his crate and absolutely adores going for walks, plus he's a dream on the leash -no pulling and house trained! If you're looking for a sweet, low-energy companion who will blossom with a gentle and patient touch, he might just be the perfect addition to your life.

His NJ foster updated us recently: "This charming red-brown beagle mix, Red, is searching for a patient and understanding home. Red needs a little time to warm up to new people, particularly men, but underneath that initial shyness is a deeply loving and incredibly cuddly dog. Once he considers you his person, he'll be your shadow and your most affectionate companion. He's a social butterfly with other dogs, absolutely loves his walks, playtime, and is food-motivated! Red is fully potty trained and does wonderfully with free-roaming in the home, but he's not a fan of the crate. He'd do best in a low-energy household where he can feel completely at ease. If you're prepared to offer a gentle introduction and a lifetime of love, Red will reward you tenfold."

ADOPTED BY THE KINSLER FAMILY - 6/7/25

Balto is one of Annie's puppies and is available. He's a little spitfire once over his initial shyness with the family --getting into mischief that made us here at SOS laugh frequently -- cardboard boxes, leashes were fair game if left on the floor, he liked to jump up on the couch and walk the back of the couch like a cat!
