ADOPTED BY THE HUEBER-ROTH FAMILY, 8/10/10

Fred is an alumni of SOS Beagles. He was adopted a year and a half ago and returned recently because his owner travels quite a bit on his job and didn't feel he was doing Fred justice. Fred is a happy boy, a bit on the stocky side at the moment, who is said to be housetrained, good in the car, good with kids. He hasn't bothered the cats while here in foster care, either.

Smiley
Age: 3-4 yrs.
Sex: female
will be spayed prior to adoption

Sponsor Me!

Smiley was a stray at an over-crowded shelter in TN. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. She's a tiny little girl, weighing about 18#. She is quite energetic and hasn't met a person or dog she doesn't like. Cats interest her, but not to the point of doing harm -- she's just quite curious and wants them to play!

Smiley has a luxating patella which has been evaluated by our vet as a Grade 1, needing no treatment. This means that when she is tired or walking slowly, she favors the leg, but it is almost unnoticeable in her normal fast-paced gait!

Smiley will be spayed on 8/24 -- we had to hold off on surgery because she was in season when she arrived, which would mave made the surgery much more risky.

GUNNER MET LAURIE AND KEITH AT A DUPREES CONCERT ON 7/27 AND SAID "YOU BELONG TO ME!" THEY AGREED AND ADOPTED HIM!

Gunner (formally called Bobo) is the last of four beautiful beagle boys pulled from a GA shelter on their last day. He is a wonderful and active boy who would love nothing more than to be your best friend! Did I mention he makes a great pillow? If your lap is not available, you can often find him snuggling up in his favorite chair. Gunner is up to date on all of his shots, dewormed, microchipped, and is now heartworm NEGATIVE (he was positive but was successfully treated and is now testing negative). More than anything, he is ready for a home to call his own!

Gunner is currently in transport and all the volunteer transport people have remarked on how sweet he is!

CROSS-POSTED BY REQUEST OF SHELTER -- THEIR ADOPTION POLICIES AND FEES APPLY

One beagle is fine but Buster was petrified. His cage mate, Bailey is very sick, has heart worm and now having seizures so when I heard his story, I just couldn't get him out of my mind. I do foster care for CCAS and decided to take Buster home. Here is his posting on petfinder
Within hours of Buster being in my home, he was happy, tail wagging, taking treats, eating and he absolutely loves all animals. I do have a beagle mix at home and she is older. She tolerates Buster and his need to be with her. Buster comes when called although he is still a little shy. I do not let him out in my fenced yard to free roam yet because I am not sure if he will hide. He walks great on a leash with my other dog although he had to be coaxed to come thru the door initially, he is getting better at that. He is fascinated with everything including the TV. He is full of energy as most beagles are and just a doll. He is neutered, vaccinated and heartworm neg. He needs to go to a home with another dog.

Timmy
Age: 10-12 months
Sex: male
neutered

Sponsor Me!

Timmy is a smaller beagle boy with a happy personality. He has healed wounds on his head -- either a bite or a gunshot, but they are completely healed, leaving only a scar. He's crate-trained, but not yet housetrained. Timmy shows some food possessiveness (growling) ONLY with other dogs, so is not eligible for adoption to a home with another dog just yet or to a home with children under 10 until we've had a chance to evaluate this behavior more thoroughly.

ADOPTED - 8/5/10

Jane is a little bitty girl from a West Virginia shelter. She was a stray. She loves people, gets along well with other dogs, doesn't mind the cats, and keeps her crate spotless. She's been with us less than a week, so we're not sure of her housetraining status, as she was spayed shortly after arriving.

She's about 12-1/2" at the shoulder, weighs 19 pounds.

Otis
Age: 7/13/09
Sex: male
neutered

ADOPTED BY THE STAWINSKI FAMILY - 7/29/10

I'm Otis. I'm less than a year old and have already been in two homes. My first owner was a young man who didn't realize the amount of time a puppy takes to raise properly, so family friends of his took me so I didn't go to the pound. But unfortunately, their lhasa apso (who they admit is spoiled) didn't like have an exhuberant boy like me pestering her to play.

So here I am in rescue, just waiting for my perfect forever home.

I'm housetrained, get along with all the dogs here in rescue, and have been cat-tested. (They're boring when they're used to dogs and won't run!) I'm a lemon and white beagle boy, weighing about 30# -- they say I'm big-boned and stocky.

His foster mom reports: "He is great on the leash and loves "bye-byes" in the car. He responds very well to discipline and seems to be completely housebroken. He walks over to the door, sits down, and barks until we take him out....too cute! The only negative is that he still has the puppy instinct to chew on things but he is learning what is his and what isn't. We've been crating him while we're out because of his chewing but he doesn't mind the crate at all. He is very calm in it and just waits to be let out. The best is that he LOVES EVERYONE. No matter where we go and who is there, he walks up to anyone, tail wagging, and sits to be pet. He is just super sweet!"

Would you like a boy like me?

Spencer
Age: 1 yr.
Sex: male

Sponsor Me!

ADOPTED BY THE SOLIS FAMILY - 8/28/10

Spencer is a beautiful beagle with a wonderful personality. He is still only a puppy at around 1yr old. Therefore, he still likes to chew on things and may try to steal a shoe now and then. He gets along well with other dogs, cats and he absolutely loves children. He loves to run and play with them. He loves the attention. He is smart and a quick learner. He is not voracious when he eats, but instead takes his time even sometimes laying down to eat. He has had some accidents since coming into foster, but we are working on that with crate training and keeping him on a lead. He now is allowed to wander in certain rooms and he is doing great. He likes to dig holes to lie in which leads me to believe he is used to staying outside. However, he now loves to be inside and waits at the door for someone to let him in. He takes naps on the sofa or in one of the doggie beds. He will make an excellent family dog. Please check him out.

Lucky Hank

Lucky was found by Big Norm --

Beth-- I am so glad you are helping find this dog a permanent home. As you know, we are calling him Lucky Hank. It's sort of appropriate, since he is very lucky to still be alive. I found Lucky Hank while driving home from a club meeting at our motorcycle club's clubhouse on Top O/ the World. I was coming down off the mountain through Butterfly Gap. If you're not familiar, it is a small, very winding road. You are never surprised to turn a sharp curve and see turkeys or bears standing in the roadway.

I was about half way down the mountain, approx. 2 miles in each direction from any type of house or people, when I looked up in the middle of the road and saw a dog standing there, very composed, just staring at me heading toward him. I kept going toward him expecting him to move out of the way, like dogs usually do. However, I was surprised that he didn't move. He didn't budge one inch. He just stared me down.

When I got to him, I stopped and rolled down the window. What I saw broke my heart. This dog, a beautiful tri-colored beagle, was just standing there, completely emaciated, staring at me and shaking. He had a very sad look to him. You could see EVERY bone in this animal. He was looking at me as if he had wanted me to run him over and end his suffering. We both just sat there for a few seconds, staring at each other. He took a couple of steps toward me and his front legs gave out, and he just fell there in the road. He was flailing and struggling, attempting in vain to get back on his feet. He didn't even have the strength left to stand any longer. Now I know dogs don't have the rationale to contemplate suicide, but I swear this dog wanted me to kill him with my truck that day.

I got out of the truck and not knowing if he was rabid or sick, approached him very cautiously. As I approached him, he stopped flailing, took a deep breath, rolled his eyes back and just started wimpering. Now, I'm a biker. It takes a lot to rattle my cage, but this pup was breaking my heart. I carefully picked him up and placed him in the truck and brought to my home in Maryville. We placed him in our basement the first night, out of the rain, and got him some water and food. He drank water until I thought he would bust. He ate all of the bowl of food we gave him. We gave him another bowl a couple hours later, he consumed all of that one too. When we gave him the second bowl, My wife, son and I all noticed he started wagging his tail and becoming affectionate. To be honest, Lucky still looks like h*ll. But his improvement in just 24 hours was shocking.

It's now been another 24 hours and he continues to amaze us all. We now have him teathered outside on a covered back porch. He can lay in the sun or get in his kennel on the concrete in the shade. When we go outside to check on him, he now springs right to life! He runs up to us, excited. Its almost hard to tell if the dog is wagging the tail or if the tail is wagging the dog. He's a very affectionate pup. Seems to love my 11 year old son. When our inside dog, (a Labrador) goes out to relieve himself, Lucky Hank tries every way he can to get him to play, but Zues is just too old. He sniffs around a little, and then walks off.

My son has taken him leash walking around the neighborhood a couple of times. He seems to get along well with all of the neighborhood kids and other animals. He has shown no signs of food aggression.... well, he isn't mean aggressive, but he does get excited and you might get body tackled when he sees you set down his food bowl, LOL. He's just an all around great pup who really needs room to raom and be a beagle.

I would give anything if I had that to offer him, but unfortunately, I live in the Maryville City limits, and keeping him chained up in my subdivision would go over like flatulence in church. I will keep him here as long as I can without the neighbors complaining. Hopefully between us both we can find this little guy a loving home. Again, thanks so much with your help in the endeavor. I appreciate it, and I know Lucky Hank does.

ADOPTED BY THE LOGUIDICE FAMILY, 7/31

My name is Quinn and I am about 2yrs old. I was picked up by animal control as a stray. On the day I was to be put down, I was rescued by SOS and went to my foster home. They don't know anything about my past, but my future is looking great. I am not that big weighing in at around 21#'s. I have beautiful markings and am a laid back boy. I enjoy being with my foster brother and sisters. I also like the kitten, but sometimes I play too rough and get sprayed(yuk) with the water bottle. I am a quick learner, though, and as of today I have learned that being with the pack is better than fooling with the cat. I sleep in my crate at nite and I do ok during the day. I cry just a bit, then settle down for a nap. I have the run of the house during the day and I seem to be housetrained. I love my foster mom and dad and love any attention they give me, especially scratching my ears. I do well on a leash and do not try to escape the yard. I know my place in the pack and am very submissive. So there it is, my beagle story. When checking over the available beagles, please take a second look at me, even if you wanted a girl. I really am a very good boy.
