ADOPTED BY THE TVAROHA FAMILY - 8/10/08 From our Alabama chapter, Rosie is a sweetheart, although she is a bit unsure about younger children. If they "smother" her with love and hugs, she gets anxious and growls, so we're prefer she go to a home with children over 12. She's fine with smaller ones on walks and short visits. She's very scent oriented, and sometimes doesn't hear us when we call her in from outside because she's busy tracking where the bunnies were. She will REQUIRE a fenced-in yard if there are children in the house. She also is a bit TOO interested in the cat, and while she hasn't tried to hurt them, she barks at them incessantly, so we will not place her in a home with cats. She is great in her crate and in her limited housetime has had no accidents. This beagle is sponsored by: Eleanor Carbaugh Contact Sue of SOS Beagle Rescue

ADOPTED 8/25/08 BY THE SILVA FAMILY Hello, my name is Leroy. I have AKC papers to be registered and come from a line of field champion beagles, whatever that means...My parents had to give me up due to moving to a place that didn't allow pets after we were homeless for awhile. Despite the move I am the happiest puppy in the world. I love to play with other dogs and especially toys. If I don't have a toy to play with I will find something else to play with like a flip flop. If you give me a bone you won't hear a peep from me. I am mostly potty trained and crate trained. I enjoy long walks and running. I get along with cats alright but I confuse them with my toys and try to make them squeek. I promise I will make a wonderful family pet if you have room for a cuddly puppy. ADOPTED BY K. SMITH - 8/15/08 Little Daisy Mae was a stray girl from Morristown, TN. Her foster pulled her and said she was doing very well on her crate-training and housebreaking. She is only about 15# -- and is on the thin side, but should be perfect at about 18#. Her tail never stops wagging and she's good with other dogs. Her TN foster mom said: "Daisy seems oblivious to cars passing down the street, not major traffic but some, when on the leash--I noticed because my other dog is afraid of cars and goes the other way. She would probably be a great apartment dog as she is good in the kennel, good all night- - goes to bed with me and my dog and sleeps on a dog bed by my bed next to my dog and his dog bed. Not a peep. She had a couple accidents before I got the signals but is basically on track well. She likes to be close but I'm not encouraging her getting on the furniture but will sit in lap on floor and such. Relaxes well with people... Likes Will, my teenage son alot, no people issues.... She has been around groups and lots of people coming and going and does really well all around." Contact Linda of SOS Beagle Rescue

Meet BUTTERCUP and ASTOR!
ASTOR ADOPTED 8/3/08 - H. TENG Both came into an Alabama shelter together and love to play and snuggle together. We're guessing that Aster might be Buttercup's mom. Buttercup is reported to be between 2-3 yrs. and Astor about 5. We'd love to see them go together (and will provide a reduced adoption fee if they do), but if we have to separate them, we will, as long as the adopting family has another dog to keep them company. Buttercup is an imp -- if she is allowed loose unsupervised, she'll find something, anything, to get into. She's pulled papers off my desk and chewed them before I could cross the room. A fenced in yard and a couple of kids would be great for her to wear off energy! This beagle is sponsored by: George and Trish in memory of Champ and Turk Contact Sue of SOS Beagle Rescue

ADOPTED BY THE EDWARDS FAMILY - 8/18/08 Lily came to SOS in Alabama on July 2 - she has come out of her shell a lot since then. She now mostly comes to Howard and me when we call her, although she always has to think about it and hem and haw for a few minutes. And then she will come. She gets along great with my calm girl beagle and with my more rambunctious boy beagle. He is trying to get her to play with him... but we are not there yet. She also leaves the cat alone, so no problems there. She does not dig and she has never pee'd in the house. She must have been housetrained at some point? Or perhaps she follows the example of my pups - not sure. Also, she doesn't bark, but she talks a lot. Especially when she is trying to decide if she will come to you... its like she wants to, but she just isn't sure. Last Sat night, we had 2 guests, and she hid in the doghouse until Howard called her outside with us. At that point, she did sit quietly and let everyone pet her - she didn't act silly (cowering, flinching, trying to get away), but after we stopped paying attention to her, she did go back to the doghouse. I am hoping that in a week or so, she will come and hang out in the open with everyone. Right now, she only hangs out if you're paying attention to her... Her health is great. she is heartworm neg, no illnesses, and she is starting to eat good. Contact Linda of SOS Beagle Rescue

ADOPTED - 8/24/08 BY THE RYAN FAMILY and SAMMY Millie just arrived from Alabama and her foster mom there said "If there was a perfect Beagle, Millie would be highly qualified. She is the most wonderful foster I've ever had. Millie is a young female who was found lost on a rural country road in AL. She appears to have been someone's loving pet. One of her favorite things to do is lounge and nap on a soft pillow or at the foot of a bed. Millie gets along well with other dogs and would be a great addition to any family setting." Upon her arrival in NJ, she made herself at home on MY bed and sits on command. This beagle is sponsored by: Donna Monek in memory of Kasey Contact Linda of SOS Beagle Rescue

Marvin
Age: 10-14 mo. Sex: male neutered Marvin arrives in NJ on Saturday, 9/6 At first glance, you might think "thats one tough looking hunting dog". But really I must admit I am a softy. My name is Marvin and deep down I think I was supposed to be a couch potato. I would much rather spend my days relaxing on the rug or being cuddled on your lap. I love belly rubs and just being petted in general. I don't mind cats, I pretty much ignore them. I like to play with other dogs and chew on toys and bones. I also like being outside and watching what is going on. I am pretty much potty trained, I think I am getting the concept. I don't really like the crate but I am getting used to it. If I have all my needs met like food, water and potty I don't really care. I especially enjoy walks and could make a great running companion. Overall I could make you a great beagle. ADOPED BY THE BELKIN FAMILY - 8/19/08 TN Foster Report: Scout is more shy than Daisy Mae, but when with other dogs or accustomed to her surroundings she totally comes out. Men can be an issue, she is shy and shakes a little but she is adjusting well to foster dad. (NJ note -- the day she arrived in NJ, a male adopter met her and was greeted with kisses) She plays 24/7 if given the chance with their older border mix. She is absolutely adorable playing, smaller but stockier. She is a total cuddler, think she would make a good apt dog but her submissive disposition might not fit well with the heavily traveled streets of NYC Contact Linda of SOS Beagle Rescue

ADOPTED BY THE ELISHA & SETH - 8/24/08 Wally is very happy, playful and medium energy. He enjoys nylabones, kongs, and hard rubber toys. He's not house broken yet but working on it. He's getting used to the crate and while he objects initially, he quiets down after awhile. Like most beagles, Wally loves his food and treats and gets along well with other dogs. He'll snuggle when he gets tired. We're still getting to know Wally, as he just arrived 7/12, and we'll post more updates later. ADOPTED BY THE KILGALLON FAMILY - 8/30/08 Josey was adopted by a family with no other dogs and did exhibit some separation anxiety when she was left for long periods the first couple of days due to a death in the family which resulted in damage to the blinds. She may need a home with another dog for company. Josey would love to be your house dog. She gets along with other dogs, cats and especially likes people. Any attention you can give her makes her very happy. She hasn't had an accident since she has been in her foster home. You'll know when Josey's happy because she will whimper in delight. She's a very mellow and laid back kind of girl. Won't you let her be your family dog? Josey did escape from the holding kennel at the shelter, and until we can prove otherwise, should be considered an escape artist from a fenced-in yard. The ideal home for her, at this time, would be one where she would be leash-walked, but we are watching her in her foster home to see if her "escape" was really the result of a shelter volunteer forgetting to properly latch the gate. UPDATE: Josey has shown no signs of digging or climbing in the 3 weeks she's been in her NJ foster home and should be considered no more an escape risk than any other normal beagle.
